We all know dental hygiene is extremely important, but sometimes our brushing habits could do more harm than good.

"We recommend that you brush your teeth for 2 minutes, with a light to a medium amount of force," said prosthodontist Dr. Youssef Obeid.

Whether it's electric or manual, it is very important to brush correctly and regularly.

"What we recommend for a toothbrush is a soft or ultra soft, you know," said Dr. obeid, "We try to stay away from using a medium or a hard tooth brush nowadays because it will cause some damage for your own actual teeth."

However electric does have its benefits according to Dr. Obeid,

"People have a tendency to brush too hard, or too fast. That's why sometimes the electric toothbrush will help you because it will give you the right amount of time, and will tell you if you are pushing too hard."

In the end the message is simple.

"The best way to protect your teeth from cavities and from gum disease is still brushing your teeth," said Dr. Obeid.
