NORMAL, Ala. – The ACU Wildcats are back on the diamond this weekend as they try to snap out of their recent funk with a three-game series against Alabama A&M.

The teams will play a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 12 p.m., and then wrap up the series Sunday with a single game at 1 p.m.

The Wildcats are 7-10 on the season and have lost eight of their last nine games after dropping a short two-game set at home last weekend against East Central (Okla.). The Bulldogs – a member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) are 8-15 and are 3-3 in their last six games leading into this weekend's series.

After a 6-2 start to their first season at the NCAA Division I level, the Wildcats played nine games between March 4 and March 16, taking on the likes of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Missouri State, Utah, UTA and Texas Tech and only winning once in that stretch.

The Wildcats, though, have been off since Sunday's 9-5 loss to East Central, their longest stretch of off days since the season started.

The biggest problem the Wildcats have had in their recent slump is their inability to get runners across the plate. Last Sunday, ACU left 13 runners on base in the loss to the Tigers, and has left 83 runners on base in last nine games, including 12 against Oklahoma State, 10 against East Central on Friday and 13 on Sunday.

Senior catcher Seth Spivey is hitting .462 with two home runs and 11 RBI, while senior third baseman has raised his average to .302 with a team-best 13 RBI. The Wildcats have hit just four home runs on the season, while their opponents have just eight.

The pitching staff is led by Garrett Demeyere, who is 3-2 with a 2.91 ERA in six starts this season. Demeyere will get a start against the Bulldogs, as should Nate Cole (1-3, 5.14 ERA) and either Kevin Sheets (2-1, 2.45 ERA) or Austin Lambright (0-2, 8.24 ERA).

Alabama A&M is led offensively by Andrew Utterback, who is hitting .408 with three home runs and 25 RBI, while Julion Nunez is hitting .350 with three home runs and 18 RBI.

Joshua Freeman leads a pitching staff with a combined 6.01 ERA with a 1-1 record and 2.25 ERA. Devin Smith is 2-3 with a 3.9 ERA, while Benjamin Ryder (0-2, 7.06 ERA) and Derrick Winter (1-2, 7.12 ERA) are the only other Bulldogs with more than three starts on the season.
