AUSTIN, Texas — Hardin-Simmons’ men’s basketball team completed the regular season with an 87-70 American Southwest Conference win over Concordia on Saturday afternoon at the Concordia Fieldhouse in Austin.
HSU controlled the game pretty much from the outset. HSU led 35-28 at halftime. Concordia chipped the lead down to 42-40 early in the half but HSU scored the next seven points.
Concordia was playing uphill the rest of the way but briefly took a 65-64 lead with 7:04 to play. The Cowboys answered with a 17-3 run over the next six minutes to deliver the knockout blow.
HSU hit 15-of-24 shots in the second half and went 17-of-22 at the free throw line. HSU outscored Concordia 36-18 in the paint in the game and led 26-17 in points off turnovers.
Titus Mims led the Cowboys with 25 points and six rebounds. Derrick Jefferson had 21 points and 10 rebounds. John Barnes (14) Cameron Barnes (12) and Jim Walter (10) also hit double figures for the Cowboys.
Andre Potts led the Tornados with 16 points and Josh Sanchez and Jonathan Garza had 13 and 10 points respectively.
The Cowboys are 17-8 overall and 17-5 in league play. They will be the second seed in the ASC Tournament next weekend at Texas-Dallas. Concordia finished the year 16-9 overall and 13-9 in conference play.
