PINEVILLE, La.— Hardin-Simmons’ softball team dropped its series finale with Louisiana College, 11-2, on Saturday afternoon at Coca-Cola Field in Pineville, La.
HSU scored a run in the first when Mac Clay scored on an error. LC made it 3-1 in the second on a two-run single by Stephanie Jaeger and Kimber Gruehl had an RBI single.
The Cowgirls narrowed the deficit to 3-2 in the third when Kara LeLeux was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
LC put the game away with two runs in the fourth, three in the fifth and three more in the sixth.
Nancy Bunting worked the shutout allowing two unearned runs. Gruehl led the Wildcats with three hits and drove in four. Jaeger also drove in four runs.
Emily Hardaway started and allowed three runs in an inning and two-third to take the loss to fall to 4-4. Lara Ammermann and Keeley Lowrance worked in relief for the Cowgirls.
Mac Clay and Sarah Truelove had the two Cowgirl hits.
HSU is now 12-9 and 10-8 in American Southwest Conference play. LC improved to 16-3 overall and 16-2 in league play. HSU will play a doubleheader at Abilene Christian on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
