ABILENE, Texas — Joanna Daniel scored a career-best 24 points and dished out seven assists to lead the Hardin-Simmons women’s basketball team to a big American Southwest Conference win over East Texas Baptist, 88-69, on Saturday afternoon at the Mabee Complex.
Daniel was on fire in the first half as she scored 18 points and hit five 3-pointers to pace the Cowgirls to a 47-33 halftime lead.
The Cowgirls continued to build on the lead after halftime and led by as many as 27 points in the second half.
HSU’s two seniors had big days on their final game at the Mabee Complex. Becca Chagnon had eight points, 16 rebounds and six assists and Jamie Heflin scored 13 points and had five rebounds.
HSU dominated the game on the backboards, as the Cowgirls outrebounded ETBU 53-39. HSU also held the Tigers to 35.6 percent shooting, including 3-for-25 from 3-point range.
The Cowgirls hit nine 3-pointers, including a career-best six by Daniel.
HSU is now 8-15 on the year and 8-12 in ASC play. ETBU fell to 8-14 overall and 6-13 in league play. HSU closes the regular season next weekend at Mary Hardin-Baylor and Concordia.
The Cowgirls are currently in a three-way tie for sixth place in the ASC standings.
