BETHANY, Okla. – McMurry University’s volleyball team will take the first steps in trying to defend its National Christian College Athletics Association (NCCAA) national championship, when it begins play in the 2013 NCCAA Central Region Tournament Friday (Nov. 22) at Southern Nazarene University. The tournament concludes on Saturday (Nov. 23).
The War Hawks – seeded No. 4 - will open pool play on Friday at noon versus host Southern Nazarene University, the tourney’s No. 1-seeded team. At 5 p.m. Friday, the War Hawks will face No. 3-seed Southwestern Assemblies of God University. Pool play concludes on Saturday morning (8:30 a.m.) with a bout versus No. 2-seed Oklahoma Wesleyan University.
The teams with the two best records in pool play will meet at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday evening to play for the NCCAA Central Region title and right to advance to the NCCAA national championships, December 5-7 in Kissimmee, Fla.
McM will enter the event with a 14-15 overall mark and having posted a 10-8 record against Heartland Conference opponents. The War Hawks have won four of their last five matches, three of which were five-set victories.
