CLAREMORE, Okla. – The McMurry University had the tables turned on them on Saturday, losing at Rogers State University, 65-63. The War Hawks (2-15, 2-9 HC) had defeated the Hillcats (7-12, 4-9 HC) in the last meeting between the schools back in November.

McM had what would be its largest lead of the day at the 12:20 mark of the first half, 11-7, on a layup by Sierra Maykus. RSU would eventually overtake McMurry and lead the latter part of the period, carrying a 35-31 advantage into the halftime locker room.

The Hillcats tallied the first four points of the second stanza, opening up their largest cushion – eight points – at 39-31 with 16:43 left to play. A little over seven minutes later, the War Hawks caught RSU at 48-48 on a Tory Salazar jumper and a few moments later too their first lead of the second period, 51-50, on a bucket by Keshia Collins.

A pair of Collins free throws at the 4:40 juncture put the McM squad ahead by three points (59-56). But RSU would out-score McMurry down the stretch, 9-4, to secure the 65-63 win.

Collins narrowly missed a double-double for the day, pouring in a game-high 23 points and grabbing nine rebounds. Collins – who hit 8-of-22 from the floor and was 4-of-4 from the free throw stripe – also had a block and three steals.

Salazar had 10 points on a 5-of-10 shooting day. Salazar also corralled four rebounds. Adijatu Disu added nine points, five rebounds and three steals, while Taylor Russell contributed a balanced six points and six rebounds.
Katlyn Tarbet and Tineka Lawson both hauled in six boards, as well.

RSU’s Clarissa Cannon went off for 21 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Hillcats.

McM will look to snap its seven-game skid next Thursday (Jan. 30) when it plays host to Oklahoma Christian University at Kimbrell Arena.
