Oral Roberts will forfeit two Southland Conference men's games in the coming weeks to remain compliant with NCAA rules. One of those contests is their January 16th match-up with Abilene Christian.

According to NCAA rules, a Division I team can only play non-Division I opponents four times in a given basketball season. Oral Roberts was scheduled to play the Wildcats on January 16th at Moody Coliseum, and Incarnate Word on January 18th.

Earlier this season ORU has played four non-Division I teams this season, exhibition games against Northwood (Texas) and Rogers State (Okla.), and then regular season games against Cameron (Okla.) and Dallas Baptist.

The Southland Conference Executive Committee has since decided that Oral Roberts will forfeit both the ACU and Incarnate Word games in order to remain compliant with NCAA rules.

In the 2013-14 academic year both ACU and Incarnate Word are not Division I schedule counters as they transition from Division II. Thus Southland Conference teams were supposed to adjust their schedules to allow for their one match-up with ACU and Incarnate Word this year.

Both ACU and Incarnate Word will be Division I schedule counters next season.

The forfeits by the Golden Eagles will be counted in the Southland Conference standings, and in the seeding process for this year's conference tournament. The NCAA on the other hand will not recognize the forfeits, but rather as cancelled games or no contests.

As a result of Oral Roberts forfeiting the men's game, the women's contest will be moved back to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday January 16th.
