McMurry head football coach Mason Miller is leaving the university after one season as leader of the War Hawks.

A source told BCH Sports on Friday Miller was leaving to become an assistant at division two Tarleton State. On Saturday the university issued an official press release on Miller's departure.

In the statement McMurry's Vice President for Academic Affair Dr. Paul Fabrizio said "we thank Mason for his five years of service to McMurry University. Given the recent decision by the University to return to NCAA III, we understand that some staff members might choose to pursue other options more in line with their career goals. We wish him all the success in his next position.”

Miller became the head man at McMurry last spring after former head coach Hal Mumme left the university. Prior to being named the head coach, Miller was the offensive coordinator of the War Hawks under Mumme.

The War Hawks went 3-9 in Miller's one and only season as the the head coach at McMurry.

According to the press release issued by McMurry athletics, the search for Miller's replacement is already underway.

Defensive coordinator Kendall Roberson will take over as interim head coach until Miller's replacement is hired.
