ABILENE - Abilene Christian's women's tennis team never lost to Incarnate Word when the two schools were in the Lone Star Conference, and now as first-year members of the Southland Conference the Wildcats began the second chapter of their rivalry with a resounding 7-0 victory over the Cardinals at the Mabry Tennis Center.

ACU's victory was its fifth straight and lifted its season record to 9-2 (1-0 Southland), while UIW fell to 2-7 (0-1 Southland) after being shut out by the Wildcats for the fourth consecutive dual. In fact, the Cardinals haven't won a single point against ACU in singles or doubles since March of 2011.

The Wildcats started Sunday's dual with two doubles victories as the match at No. 3 was left unfinished. Sisters Micah and Kaysie Hermsdorf won their 10th straight dual match at No. 1 and improved to 12-2 overall with an 8-4 win over Ivana Katavic and Andi Botha, and at the No. 2 position, freshman Erin Walker and junior Brittney Reed cruised to an 8-3 victory over Sarah Savedra and Jennifer Betancourt.

Senior Emily Conrad and sophomore Nada Marjanovic were leading UIW's Taryn Strahl and Kelsey Reblin, 6-5, when their match was halted.

ACU is now 25-6 (.806) in doubles competition this spring in dual matches.

In singles, each of the six Wildcat competitors won in straight sets with Reed at No. 2 and Marjanovic at No. 5 recording shutouts over their respective opponents Savedra and Strahl. Marjanovic continues to lead ACU this season with 11 singles victories.

The Wildcats return to action Tuesday at 10 a.m. against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The dual was postponed a day with there being a 70 percent chance of rain in Monday's forecast.
