With the shortage of water in the Big Country, officials from across the area came to see what solutions could be brought to the table.

State officials suggested a reservoir. But, it would take years worth of rain water running into the reservoir over time, and how much would be used depends on the severity of the drought.

Abilene isn't the only town to benefit from this; Houston has also had a reservoir built and had success from the solution. State and local officials say they feel confident that this solution will work long term.
