With summer here many students are out of school enjoying their break. Some go on vacation, other take classes, but many are looking for work.

Many local restaurants and retail stores see an increase in job applications this time of year.

But what do stores and restaurants do after the summer ends, when students are returning to school?

One local restaurant has already hired four to five new employees and have a few more applications to look through.

One Cooper High junior, Jasmine Casillas, has been working at Little Italy since February and has seen a few of her friends come in and apply.

The owner of the Little Italy, Luigi Tetaj, says that he believes in hiring students to teach them a good work ethic.

He also has solved the problem on how not to lose employees when summer ends. Tetaj makes sure to hire students that are local and are willing to work through the school year.

Casillas says that she will definitely continue working through her senior year after summer ends.
