'Suspicious Package' Deemed Safe in South Abilene

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - A briefcase full of paper caused police to evacuate multiple south Abilene businesses for a bomb squad investigation Thursday afternoon.

The briefcase was discovered inside the lobby of the Department of Veteran's Affairs Office on the 3800 block of Ridgemont Drive just after 12:00 p.m.

It was initially deemed a 'suspicious package', so Goodwill, the VA Office, and the parking lot were evacuated while an active investigation was underway.

An 'all clear' was given after a bomb squad tech went inside the VA Office, x-rayed the briefcase, and determined it was not a threat.

The briefcase was successfully opened without incident and removed from the building around 2:00 p.m.
