The best of the best high school power lifters in Texas competed for a state title in the Key City on Saturday.

Weigh-ins started Friday night but the opening ceremony was held Saturday at 9 a.m. The Abilene Convention and Visitors Bureau presented the offer to the Taylor County Expo Center two weeks ago to host the state power lifting championship for the next four years.

Around 490 high school students competed for a state title, and around 165 individual medals were awarded.

The championship has been held in Abilene for the past seven years and brought in nearly $3.2 million in economic development.
