ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - The Texas Department of Criminal Justice has placed an inspector on leave after a video surfaced showing him encouraging a physical fight between two teenage girls.
The video, shot in an Abilene backyard with a cell phone, shows TDCJ inspector Ronald Wagman yelling things like "go", "take her down", and "there you go, get on top of her" while the two teens battle it out.
At the end of the video, Wagman and other adults are heard screaming "she's got more for you" as one of the teens leaves the backyard.
The TDCJ released the following statement regarding the Wagman's employment status following the fight:
OIG is aware of the video and is informed that local law enforcement has seen the video. At this time, OIG has placed the employee on administrative leave pending a review of the facts surrounding the events depicted on the video. It should be understood that the conduct displayed on the video is not representative of the expectations that the Office of Inspector General has for its employees either on or off duty. Also, this event appears to have occurred while the employee was off duty. The OIG does not comment on any internal personnel matter. Accordingly, OIG will have no further comment until the matter is resolved.
The Abilene Police Department told KTAB and KRBC their agency did investigate but found no reason to issue any criminal charges at this time, though the case has been turned over to Child Protective Services.
