NOLAN COUNTY, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - Ten prize show pigs were killed when a barn at the Nolan County Coliseum caught fire Wednesday night.
Sweetwater Fire Chief Grant Madden says emergency crews responded to one of the smaller barns on Coliseum Drive around 11:30 p.m.
The structure was fully involved when they arrived on scene. The firefighters say the heat was intense due to all of the hay inside.
The building was destroyed, and all ten prize show pigs inside were killed, according to Chief Madden.
The official cause of the fire has not been determined, but Chief Madden told KTAB and KRBC investigators believe it could have been caused by a kerosene lamp or other heat source.
