Victim of Nolan County crash identified, 6 remain hospitalized

NOLAN COUNTY, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - The Texas Department of Public Safety has identified the victim of a fatal crash that happened Friday evening.

According to Sgt. Fred Biddle, 41-year-old Connie Marie Lee of Buda was pronounced dead at the scene.

6 others remain in the hospital.

Evan Wayne Barney, 31, of Belton, is in stable condition at Hendrick Medical Center.

8-year-old Athena Barney, 6-year-old Autumn Barney, and 5-year-old Easton Barney are all in serious condition.

Joseph Eric Boyles, 25, of Buda and 6-year-old Kalleia Hurtado are in critical condition.

Kalleia is in University Medical Center in Lubbock.

 

ORIGINAL STORY: One person is dead and seven others are hurt following a two-car crash in Nolan County Friday afternoon.

State Troopers tell KRBC and KTAB that both vehicles were traveling down Highway 70 in opposite directions.

When the driver of the SUV in the Northbound lane lost control, hitting a car in the Southbound lane.

Both cars were carrying four people.

The SUV driver and two children in that vehicle were taken to Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene for injuries.

The fourth passenger of the SUV was taken to Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital in Sweetwater.

In the other car, the driver and a passenger were taken to Rolling Plains.

A child in that car was taken to Lubbock for emergency care and officials tell KRBC and KTAB they are badly hurt.

A fourth person that was in that car was pronounced dead on scene.

There is no official word on what caused the SUV to veer into the other lane.
