Woman Arrested in Connection to Saturday Shooting

A Coleman woman has been arrested for shooting a man in central Abilene early Saturday night, APD says.

Catrena Stewart, 38, was charged with 1st degree felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Stewart has been accused of shooting her 41-year-old common-law husband of seven years in the waist following an altercation inside the vehicle they both were traveling in.

The arrest report states that as the victim was walking away, Stewart grabbed a handgun and shot him in the waist. She then drove to her mother-in-law's house on the 400 block of Pecan Street where the victim had walked to get medical help.

Stewart was later arrested in the same location and taken to the law enforcement center where she was questioned. According the police, she admitted to being involved in an altercation and shooting the victim.

The victim was transported to Hendrick Medical Center where he we was treated for his gunshot wound. An emergency protective order has been filed for the victim. Police have not released his name or condition at this point.

Stewart was released from the Taylor County Jail on Sunday on a $10,000 bond.
