"U.S.A. is finally moving up," Kolista Garcia, a soccer fan said. "It still is a success story for the U.S. because we have proved everybody wrong."
Fans packed restaurants and bars, such as Buffalo Wild Wings, to root for their team. From American bandanas to masks, fans expressed their support loudly for the team other countries considered an underdog.
"People are starting to understand that there is a bigger sport that the world watches," says Jake Laudermilk, another soccer fan.
Despite the loss, it is businesses that are scoring high. Buffalo Wild Wings had to double up on wings and staff just to serve the large crowds, according to one manager.
With the help of Fourth of July this week, managers are noticing a sense of national pride. Academy Sports + Outdoor is seeing a consistent amount of foot traffic, with the help of this season's American merchandise.
"We are really excited about the track we have been seeing," says Jim Downs of Academy Sports + Outdoor. "We have merchandise from shirts, to bottles, and items such as grills and lawn chairs."
The increased popularity in patriotic products is also being noticed at Wally's Party Factory, who is seeing good business with the upcoming holiday.
"It has been awesome," says Manager at Wally's Party Factory Gail Kowalski. "This year, its been a different kind of business because people are not only coming in for Fourth of July but reunions and such."
Even inflatables have been "hot" this season.
"Anything red, white, and blue are selling," adds Kowalski. "The inflatables were selling so fast that we just took everything from the back and put them closer to the register."
Understandably, all of the store's World Cup banners and American flags were all sold out.
