Residents of a northeast Abilene senior living facility now have an outlet for artistic expression.
A new painting class is helping residents of Abilene's Chisholm Place stay sharp of mind and spirit.
"I want them to sort of find their own creativity and hopefully have fun playing around with the paints," Sarah Collins, organizer of the class, said. "It's good for them to remember that they are still able to be creative and to learn new things even in their older ages."
According to Collins, painting and artistic expression can have therapeutic effects by acting as a stress reliever.
"It's good for motor skills and cognitive ability. So, there's a lot of health benefits to it," Collins said.
The Chisholm Place retirement center hopes the art class becomes a regular activity.
