"I mean, there's going to be a target on our back obviously. Like coach West says, 'winning a state championship is a great thing but that does nothing for us now.' So, we just have to work really hard and try to get back to where we were last year," said Landon Lewis.
Last season Lewis shared the backfield with Mason Reed, but still rushed for over 1,000 yards and 15 touchdowns. Now he's poised to take over as the primary back in head coach Brent West's offense.
"I've got some big shoes to fill, coming in after him. We had a great offensive line this year, and we should this next year. I'm just going to do the best I can and hope they 'll do the same," said Lewis.
The Loboes should also have a solid offensive line once again this year, and Lewis is quick to point out how much that will help.
"I mean we're going to have to come in every week knowing there's a chance we could get knocked off, because once you get to the top, it's the hardest to stay at the top. So, that's what we're going try and do. I mean every year you want to get to the state championship obviously. I just want to do the best for my team, and I know everybody has the same mentality as me. So, we're just going to give it the best shot," said Lewis.
The expectations are high in Cisco once again this year, and in order for the Loboes to have a shot at defending their title, they will need a solid season from their running back. That makes Landon Lewis a Player to Watch in 2014.
