Cooper, Abilene High, and Wylie are featured in the Top Match Ups for Week 3.

Abilene High and Cooper meet for the 54th time in history of the rivalry in Week 3 of the 2014 season, but it is a non-district game for just 3rd time in the rivalry. Abilene High remained in the biggest classification, which is now called Class 6A,while Cooper dropped down to the next biggest in the newly configured Class 5A. If the games in 2008 and 2009 are any indication, the games may not matter in the standings, but each team's desire to beat the rival is not diminished. Cooper leads the overall series with the Eagles, but the teams have split the last 4 with Cooper taking last year's game 56-31. Abilene High is working to return to the post season after having their 14-year playoff streak ended in 2013. The Eagles are picked to finish 4th in District 3-6A. Cooper is the favorite to win District 4-4A, but they are going to be breaking in 11 new starters. Expect a full house at Shotwell Stadium in Week 3 when the Eagles and Cougars fight for city dominance for the next 12 months.

The Graham Steers and the Wylie Bulldogs are set to meet in Week 3 in a match up between 2 of the best teams in the state in Class 4A. Graham is coming off a trip to the state semifinals in 2013. The Steers return 14 starters from that team, and they are ranked 3rd in Division 1 by Texas Football Magazine. The Wylie Bulldogs are expected to have another great season in 2014. Head coach Hugh Sandifer's team starts the year ranked 10th in the state in 4A Division I. The Bulldogs and the Steers are rivals even though they are not usually in the same district. This non-district game in September could be a playoff preview.

2 other games are worthy of mention in Week 3 of the 2014 season. The Breckenridge Buckaroos, who are favored to win their district, visit the Mustang Bowl to take on Sweetwater. The Goldthwaite Eagles are state ranked again as they travel to Bangs for a game with the Dragons.
