Abilene High & Cooper Start Spring Football

May 1, 2017 - Abilene High and Cooper started spring football practice on Monday.

Starting over at Abilene High. Head coach Del Van Cox and his team are coming off a district championship and a trip to the third round of the playoffs, but they've got some rebuilding to do this year.

The Eagles return just 2 starters on the offensive side of the ball and 3 on defense. Abilene High will work for three weeks and finish up with the Black/Gold scrimmage on May 19th.

Now over to Cooper, the Cooper Cougars shared the 2016 district championship and advanced to the third round of the class 5A postseason.

Head coach Todd Moebes returns 5 starters on the offense and 5 starters on defense this year.

Ender Freeman takes over at quarterback for the Cougars this year, but he'll have plenty of weapons with running back Tyrees Whitfield and receiver Myllar Royals returning. Defensively, cooper has to replace several from last year that had three years of starting experience.

The Red/Blue game is Thursday, May 18.
