Abilene High Tops Coronado In A Thriller, 56-49

For the 2nd week in a row, the Abilene High game goes down to the end before it is decided, only this time the Eagles come away with a 56-49 victory over Lubbock Coronado.

The high scoring game came down to the final minute of the game. Eagles quarterback Derek Scott scored for Abilene High on a 51 yard run on 4th down and 1. The touchdown run came with :51 to go in the game to put the Eagles up, 56-49.

Coronado returned the ensuing kickoff to the Abilene High 43, but on the 1st play, the Eagles defense picked off a Coronado pass with :37 to go in the game. Abilene High wins, 56-49.

Abilene High racked up over 600 yards of offense, and Scott was great for the 3rd game in a row for Abilene High. He threw 5 touchdown passes and rushed for 2 more. Receiver Trey Dennis caught 4 of those touchdown passes for the Eagles.

With the win, Abilene High improves to 2-4 in District 2-5A play. Coronado falls to 0-5 in district.
