The Albany Lady Lions are one of 6 teams from the Big Country that are still alive in the softball playoffs.

Head coach Jimmy Fuentes and his girls swept Stamford over the weekend to advance to this week's regional semi-final round.

Experience is Albany's calling card because the bulk of this team has been to state 2 times in the last 3 years, and a return trip is driving this team.

Coach Fuentes said, "We got there last year, and we know what it takes. As a matter of fact, we got there 2 of the last 3 years. Most of our kids were the core on both of those teams, and they know what it takes. They've got a lot of experience. They've been there before. So, here we go , again."

Madison Jones added, "Our seniors know what's at stake and how far we can take ourselves if we push ourselves, and if we push our team, and we stay focused."

Kassidy Sullivan said, "We've been playing at our best abilities because we know what we have to do to keep going on, and we just want to keep pushing on. So, we have to play to our best."

The Lady Lions open their series with Windthorst on Friday night in Graham. Game 2 is back in Graham at 11 in the morning.
