Denney Faith said "We tried to tell them that something that somebody rights in a magazine in July really doesn't mean anything. So, you're going to have to go out and prove it and play and do the things that you have to do to put yourself in that position in December."
The Lions return a lot of key guys from last season's squad including quarterback Drew Neece and Caleb Masters, who rushed for more than 1900 yards and 23 touchdowns in 2013.
Colin Read said "We have all of our skill guys returning this year and it's really great, but we really need to work on our offensive and defensive lines."
Stevie Phillips said "We pretty much returned all of our skill players. So, just knowing the offense and defense really helps us out for the upcoming season."
Faith said "When you have those guys that have gone through a full season so far, and then got to play in some five extra playoff games last year it makes a complete difference as far as your experience goes. Those guys have come out and we're a lot further along this time this year than we were last year."
The defense will be key for the Lions. Stevie Phillips returns as the leader of the defense after racking up 120 tackles last year. The defense will look to rely on their speed this fall.
Faith said "Well we're not very big, so we're going to have to be able to use some speed, and that's one thing that Stevie has. You know he can run a little bit and he doesn't mind a little contact."
Phillips said "We're expecting to be pretty good. We're all about getting to the ball. Just attacking hard and playing hard defense."
The Lions are expecting big things from their squad this year, and their quest for the state championship will begin August 29th at home against Colorado City.
