Eastland is the smallest big country school in the state tournament, but the Mavericks were the only ones to go undefeated in pool play. The Mavs opened with a win one point win over East Bernard in their first game. From there Eastland would pick up wins over Sabine and Fairfield. They will now take on Princeton in the championship bracket on Friday.
Brownwood advanced on a tie breaker thanks to their 44 point explosion against Rockdale in their final game of the day. The Lions fell to Canton and Marion earlier in the day but managed to finish in a tie for second at 1-2. They will take on Brady in the first round of the championship bracket in College Station.
Wylie also finished the day 1-2 in pool play, but their 40-22 win over Quanah proved to be the difference as the Bulldogs finished in a three-way tie for second. They too would move on with on a tie-breaker and will take on China Spring in the championship bracket.
The Sweetwater Mustangs are making their first appearance in the state tournament this year, and wasted little time reaching the championship bracket. The Mustangs found themselves in a winner-takes-all game for second place with Boerne in the final game of the day. Sweetwater edged Boerne 35-33 to set up their first round match-up against Chapel Hill.
