Bangs hung on in San Angelo to beat Denver City, 27-25, to win the Area Championship.

Dragons quarterback J.T. Newton led the way on Tuesday night for head coach Chuck Lipsey. He scored touchdowns on runs of 9, 31, and 47 yards.

Newton put the Dragons on top with the 31 yard touchdown in the 1st quarter, and they had a 14-6 advantage at halftime.

He continued to come through for his team in the 2nd half. Newton delivered a 9 yard touchdown run in the 3rd quarter to put Bangs in front 21-6.

After Denver City pulled to within 3 points late in the 4th quarter, Newton ripped off a 47-yard run for the game winner.

Bangs victory sets up a rematch of the last year's regional championship game. The Dragons take on Eastland on Monday night at 6 in Brownwood.

Eastland beat Bangs when they met in 2012.
