Coogs Turn it Around to Stay Alive in Playoffs

May 8, 2017 - The Cooper Cougars are still alive in the second round of the high school baseball playoffs, a fact that is a bit surprising after game one of their series with Canyon.

The Cougars lost that game 14-3 for their 5th straight loss, and things looked bad. Then, Saturday came, and Cooper won game 2, 14-4 to snap their losing streak and won game 3, 7-4.

Here's the question, what was there on Saturday that hadn't been there for the previous 5 games?

Head coach Cody Salyers said, "A lot of times throughout the year our kids sometimes, you know  just wait a little bit till they decide it's time to play. You know maybe too relaxed or just wondering what the other team's going to do. After we kind of got into it after that first day, you know then they turned around knowing it's win or go home, and they turned it around and did exactly what we needed to do."

"Just the way we played Friday really made a lot of us frustrated I think," Austin Smith said. "We were just like, you know, trying to stay positive with it and the next day we had a plan that we were going to dominate all the rest of the day, so I mean we came out and started hitting. You could tell from the beginning in the cages, and really we just showed off, and we played our game like we're supposed to and it was awesome."

The Cougars continue the playoffs on Friday night against El Paso Eastlake.

Game one starts at 6 in Seminole. They return to Seminole saturday for game 2 at noon. Game three will follow if needed.
