LONDON, England – Team USA’s 4x100-meter relay team – including McMurry University sophomore Tanner Wright (Ft. Worth, Texas/North Crowley H.S.)  – had a World Para Athletics Championships gold medal, literally, taken out of its hands when the group was disqualified after a protest by Germany.  Team USA was cited for a “lane violation,” according to reports, despite winning the race by 1.5 seconds ahead of the German team.

According to the broadcasters doing the Championships’ web cast, the violation came on the exchange between Jarryd Wallace and Wright, the second and third runners. No further clarification was provided via the broadcast.

When the protest was upheld, Germany moved up to the gold medal position.
