The Abilene High Eagles are moving on to the championship bracket at the state 7on7 tournament after a clean run in pool play.

A year ago the Eagles struggled to get their offense going at the state tournament. A year later, Abilene High exploded for 54 points in their opening game against Klein Collins.

The Tigers would jump out to an early lead, but it would be all Eagles from there. A touchdown pass from Derek Scott to Trey Dennis would get Abilene High on the board. Then a short time later, the Eagles would jump in front on a another Scott to Dennis score. Abilene High would win by the count of 54-26 to start the day 1-0.

Then in their second game of the day, the Eagles edged West Mesquite by seven points, and moved to 2-0 in Pool C. The win would also put the Eagles in prime position to advance out of the pool.

Abilene High would finish the day with a match-up against Westlake. Once again the Eagles offense would come to life, and put 48 points on the board in the final game of pool play.

The 3-0 run through pool play would assure the Eagles of a trip to the championship bracket, and set up a match-up with Plano West on Saturday morning.
