Eagles Defense Growing In Spring Ball

May 17th, 2017 - The Abilene High Eagles are still two days from finishing off their spring practice.

The Eagles need a lot of new starters on both sides of the ball, but we are focusing on the defensive side.

Head coach Del Van Cox and defensive coordinator need nine new starters.

That's a huge number! The coach says they are coming around quickly.

"We have a lot of young guys, they're starting to grow up and take leadership roles and stuff like that," Doak Holloway said. "Some of the sophomores going to be juniors and some of the freshmen going to be sophomores are going to play a big role for us. Our seniors have been stepping up being leaders and stuff and helping those kids along the way."

"The young kids are doing great, they're doing really good," Terrell Franklin said. "Some names to mention, JD Dugger, he's been doing great just being a leader off and on the field and in the classroom and stuff like that."

Abilene High completes spring football on Friday night. The Black/Gold game is at Shotwell Stadium at 7.
