The Eagles cruised through pool play with wins over Weatherford and San Angelo Lake View to send them to the semifinals of the tournament.
Cooper on the other hand would have a much tougher road to the semifinals. The Cougars dropped two close games to Wichita Falls and Temple in their first two games of pool play.
In the final game of pool play the Cougars cruised past future district rival Lubbock Cooper by the final score of 53-26. That would give Cooper an average score of 42 points and place them in the semifinals as a wild card team.
It would also pair them with crosstown rival Abilene High.
The Eagles would strike first to take a 7-0 lead, and then add to it after a defensive stop.
A touchdown pass from Derek Scott from Trey Dennis would stretch the Eagles lead to 14 before the Cougars would get on the board.
Cooper quarterback David Ruot would cut the Eagles lead in half with a touchdown pass to Jaron Barnett.
Then a short time later the Eagles defense would make a play that would shift the momentum of the game back to Abilene High.
An interception by linebacker Ronnell Wilson would help set up another Abilene High touchdown to put the Eagles up by 21.
Cooper would make a rally early in the second half, but the Eagles would hold on for the 49-34 victory.
