Eagles Ready To Get Over First Round Hump

March 23rd, 2017 - The Abilene High Eagles are back in the Class 6A playoffs.

Getting to the postseason hasn't been the issue lately, they are trying to get past the first round for the time in decades.

The 2017 Eagles are district champions for the first time since 2009, and they feel like they get over the hump this year.

"We've had a couple heartbreakers the last two years, and these guys were a part of that so they know that feeling but this is a different team," head coach David Rodriguez said.

"In the game we need to start off on fire and we need to just play our game and don't let anyone get in our heads," Blaine Phariss said.

"A lot of hard work and a lot of concentration. I feel like we lacked that concentration these past two years," Cooper Cooke said. "We let our leads get away from us."

"We're going to have to just execute," Damon Whisenhunt said. "That's going to be the main thing, just finishing our chances we get, keeping them out of our goal, that's going to be our main deal."

The Eagles are at home for their bi-district championship game. They host Arlington Lamar on Friday at 7.
