The Early Longhorns started getting ready for the 2014 season on Monday morning down in Brown County.

Early is entering the second year of the Kent Hawthorne era.

In year one, the Longhorns were 4-6 on the season and just missed out on the playoffs.

14 positions are filled with starters from that team, so improvement is expected in the 2014 season.

Kent Hawthorne said, "This year we've got these kids that have come back. We had a whole year of the weights, and our 'fast feet' stuff that we do to make better athletes, and it's definitely going to help. You know, you've got another year of that terminology, knowing your expectations, and it's only going to help."

Landon Beck said, "It feels a lot better nowt hat we've kind of gotten used to what he's changed. Now we just get to go with it. I was excited, everyone was. We have a bunch of new people too. Their new to it, so we get to show them what it's like, and that's a big responsibility.

Beck is one of the returning starters for the Longhorns, and he was All-State in 2013.

The 'Horns are picked to finish 6th in District 3-3A Division I.

Early opens the 2014 season on the road at San Saba.
