Harrell Vs. Harrell- Sweetwater & Brownwood Game Will Be A Family Affair

Sam Harrell retired from coaching in Ennis two years ago. The three time state champion coach, and Texas high school football fame member was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.

"I was at the point where I thought I'd never had the opportunity to coach again." adds Sam Harrell.

"You could tell something was missing. Football's all he knows; it's all he's ever done." says son, Zach Harrell.

After a couple seasons away from the game Harrell returned to the sidelines this year at his Alma Mater- Brownwood. This time as the Lions Quarterback Coach.

"To have the opportunity to coach again has been fun. To come back to Brownwood has been fun, and just to be able to coach quarterbacks.  Like I said I'm just happy to be back in coaching. To be able to do that again...I feel really blessed."

"You've seen since he's been back, this spring, there's been a spark."

At the same time his son, Zach Harrell, was already pursuing his own coaching career.

"Because of my dad that's how I grew up. That's all I ever thought about being was a coach. I saw the impact he had on kids lives." says Zach Harrell.

This past off season Zach was hired to be the offensive coordinator in Sweetwater by Shane Mobley.

"Coach Harrell was my high school coach. He cam in my sophomore year. That's how I got to know him, and the family. Of course I used to babysit the boys, and I've been close with them ever since." adds Sweetwater Coach Shane Mobley.

Friday night Brownwood and Sweetwater will meet on the field, and for the first time it will be Harrell versus Harrell from the sidelines.

"Getting to coach against him. It's going to be a great opportunity. It's a blessing. It really is. It's going to be fun." says Harrell.
