Hermleigh Relishes at Shot to Make History

May 30th, 2017 - The Hermleigh Lady Cardinals are headed to the semifinals for the first time in school history, and this is the first time the UIL has a state title for school's Hermleigh's size.

Previously, Class A and Class 2A played together in the playoffs.

The playing field is level, now, and the Lady Cardinals are excited for the opportunity to be the first to win the championship.

"I don't really know how I could describe it," Aaliyah Sneed said. "It's one of those things where you're really speechless because it's our group and you get to be a part of it and it's something great to be a part of. Knowing that we're this close, it's just awesome."

"It feels pretty great. People always seem to underestimate small schools but I feel like we can do it," Brittany Martin said.

"It's amazing, that's all I could say about it. It's amazing to even think about it," Amanda Long said. "But honestly right now we're just focusing on that first game and then we'll focus on that second."

The Class A state tournament starts on Friday down in Belton. The 19-1 Lady Cardinals take on 9-11 Dodd City at 11 in the morning. The winner plays for state on Saturday in Austin at 9 in the morning.
