Howard Payne's Young Named ASC Offensive Player of the Week

Yellowjackets quarterback Richard Young was named the American Southwest Offensive Player of the Week on Sunday after a strong performance against Southwestern Assemblies of God the night before.

The sophomore quarterback Young helped the jackets rally to a 41-17 victory over SAGU with three second half touchdowns on Saturday night.

Young threw scoring strikes of five and 67 yards to Colby Mica in the third quarter and found Sayvon Young-Cormier for a 38-yard TD pass early in the fourth quarter.

Young completed 24 of 36 passes for 314 yards as HPU totaled 546 yards of offense against the Lions. Through two games, Young has thrown for nine touchdowns with no interceptions.

Deshon Kinsey from Mary Hardin Baylor was named defensive player of the week, and Louisiana College kicker Adan Olivares was named Special Teams Player of the Week.

Hardin-Simmons' Jesse Ramos was also recognized by the conference for a total of 221 return yards on special teams.
