The Ira Bulldogs are one of four Big Country schools still in action this weekend.

The Dogs beat Garden City Tuesday night to advance to the Class A Division II tournament in Abilene.

Tuesday night's game was a stern test for head coach Shae Sanford's team.

The coach says winning a close game never hurts a team, and he's glad the regional tournament is so close to home.

Coach Sanford said, "These kids have had to battle hard all year. Garden City's a great ball club, and they're well coached. We just played hard. Games like this always payoff for you down the road, and we hope that road continues for a little while." He added, "It's always nice the closer you can play to home. You get a little more fan support there. We've got a great crowd and great fan support, and I know they'll be there in full force this weekend."

Ira takes on 6th ranked Graford in the regional semifinals. That game is set to start at 7.
