Cooper opened the 2013 playoffs with an easy 49-14 victory over the El Paso Coronado Thunderbirds on Friday night.

The Cougars used Lorenzo Joe, who was playing with a broken hand, and Denver Gravitt at quarterback in the rout.

It was dominant performance and the perfect way for the Cougars to get the playoffs started.

Head coach Todd Moebes said, "I was proud. We certainly challenge our kids every week to go out to practice and get better and every football game you play should be the best one of the season. I am a firm believer that you can get better every single week. I think our guys have. I think they're better now going into game 12 than they were going into game 1, and we've certainly got to have a great performance this week against Lamar."

The Cougars defense was inspired by the return of Cordell Dorsey and Josh Hale. They held Coronado to just 30 1st half yards. The Cougars return to action against Arlington Lamar on Friday night at Shotwell Stadium.
