Howard Payne quarterback Richard Young, and Merkel grad Baylor Mullins were honored by the American Southwest Conference for their performances this past weekend.

The Yellow Jackets picked up their first conference win of the season on Saturday against East Texas Baptist. Quarterback Richard Young helped lead Howard Payne to that home win by throwing for 376 yards, and running for another 65 yards. Young's six touchdowns, four passing and two rushing, in the game are the most by any player in the American Southwest Conference this season.

Those numbers helped land Young the conference's Offensive Player of the Week award.

Merkel grad, and current Mary Hardin-Baylor linebacker Baylor Mullins was named Defensive Player of the Week. Mullins led the UMHB defense with nine tackles against Hardin-Simmons on Saturday. The former Merkel quarterback also found the endzone with a 23 yard interception return for a touchdown in the Crusaders' 63-7 victory over the Cowboys.

Hardin-Simmons defensive tackle Korey Zavala received honorable mention after his career high 15 tackles, 2.5 for a loss, and a sack against UMHB.

Howard Payne free safety Jordan Shaw also received honorable mention after he led the Jackets defense with 10 tackles against East Texas Baptist on Saturday.
