May 2, 2017 - The Cooper Cougars have twice as many returning starters as Abilene High with 5 returning on both sides of the ball, but that doesn't mean those guys are guaranteed a starting roll in the 2017 season.
Head coach Todd Moebes stressed to the entire team that no position is safe. He expects everyone to compete to keep the position they have or for the position they want.
"It's open competition, and we've let all of our guys know that," Moebes said. "Where they are necessarily on day one doesn't mean that's where they are going to be at the end of Spring which doesn't necessarily where they'll be at the start of Fall camp. We're constantly evaluating them every single day, and everybody's going to get an opportunity to show themselves and the best ones are going to play. Hopefully, they develop as much as they did in the off-season and our implementation through our skills work in our athletic period has been very, very good."
2 practices are down and Cooper has 14 more to get in the next 2 weeks and 2 days.
The Red/Blue scrimmage is May 18th at Shotwell Stadium.
