Pools Released for State 7-on-7 Tournament, Five Big Country Teams Qualify

The State 7-on-7 Tournament is just a few weeks away and five teams will compete for a chance at the title either division one or division two.

Abilene High will be the lone representive from the Big Country this year in division one. The Eagles draw Klein Collins, West Mesquite, and Westlake in pool play this year. In 2013, the Eagles failed to make it out of pool play and were sent to the consolation bracket.

The Brownwood Lions have had plenty of success in the state tournament in the past. It will be their 15th trip to the state tournament. Last year they were knocked out in the championship bracket. To make it back this year they will have to get past Canton, Marion and Rockdale in pool play.

District rival Wylie also qualified for the state tournament again this year. The Bulldogs will take on Navasota, Quanah, and Rice Consolidated in Pool P.

The Sweetwater Mustangs are out of the Bulldogs and Lions district this year, but could meet up with them in the state 7on7 tournament. The Mustangs will have to get past Boerne, Cureo, and Gilmer to move on to the championship bracket this year.

The smallest school from the Big Country to qualify this year is the Eastland Mavericks. They are placed in Pool B in division two with East Bernard, Fairfield, and Sabine.
