Rangers' International Players Adjust

March 20, 2017 - About 40% of the Texas Rangers roster is comprised of athletes from outside the United States.

A must to compete in Major League Baseball.

Rangers Assistant General Manager said, "Baseball continues to grow internationally. There are talented players all of the place, all over the world, and it's certainly something the Texas Rangers have been striving for, to find players that can help us win a championship."

But for those players, usually still in their teens, acclimating to a new country and culture can be difficult.

Rangers outfield Nomar Mazara said, "I knew only a little bit of english, so it was hard. THe food is totally different. Just being here by myself, I felt alone sometimes."

Shin-Soo Choo said, "It's not easy to leave probably any country. You've got 18 years used to your country and than change 180 degrees, totally change. That's not easy."

Imagine going to work and not being able to communicate because of a language barrier.

Rangers infielder Hanser Alberto said, "I just started talking to my teammates and try to learn the stuff that I need for baseball."

Daly added, "We make sure we can help them out with English classes when they are out with the teams all have spanish speakers, except for Triple-A, but by that time most of the guys have been in the system long enough they've acclimated to the United States."

Acclimating not just to a new language.

Mazara said, "I got used to it. I eat whatever now. I like the food here. I'm an American, now."

The Rangers open the new season on April 3 in Arlington against the Cleveland Indians.
