Silver Star Nation: Cowboys in pads; McFadden nickname

July 26th, 2017 - Practice for the Dallas Cowboys just started, but head coach Jason Garrett gave guys like Jason Witten, Dez Bryant, and Sean Lee the day off.

Don't panic though, it's in the plan. They aren't hurt. Here's Babe Laufenberg with more from training camp.

It's the third day of practice, but for the first time, the Cowboys put their real football pads on like real football players for a full contact practice this afternoon.

The Cowboys practice again tomorrow, and then get their first day off on Friday.

Darren McFadden is one of those veterans getting the day off. He's entering his tenth year in the NFL, a number very few running backs ever reach.

McFadden is respected by teammates and coaches alike, but with that age and wisdom come some unflattering nicknames.

Cowboys running back Darren McFadden said, "They call me "old-head" now. It's funny to hear because I can remember to be in those seats and saying the same things to old guys."

While the Cowboys go through their first full pad, full contact practice, it's hard to imagine just one week from tomorrow they'll be playing the Hall of Fame game in Canton, OH.
