Silver Star Nation: Equipment Important in Cold Weather Games

Monday night the Cowboys will take on the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field in what could be their coldest game of the season. That means the equipment the Cowboys have in the "Windy City" is key to their success.

The task of getting all of the equipment prepared for the big game on Monday will fall on the shoulders of Cowboys Director of Equipment, Mike McCord.

"Yeah, it looks like it's going to be a little chilly to say the least," said McCord. "We actually targeted this game when the schedule came out back in April, and looked at it as a staff and said 'you know, this might be the coldest one on the schedule.' You never know what's going to happen later in the year, like in Washington, but anytime you're that close to the lake."

At the same time this won't exactly be the first trip to Chicago late in the season for the Cowboys.

"We played there in cold games before. In 1991, we had a playoff game there that we were fortunate enough to win. That was a cold day, but I don't know if that reached the temperature we're going to reach on this one," said McCoy.

Another key element for the Cowboys is getting all of that equipment to Chicago, but that shouldn't be a problem with the help of a larger plane.

"We took close to 16,000 pounds of equipment to the Giants, a couple weeks ago. I think we might be a little over that, 17,000 to 18,000 pounds. Fortunately for us we've got the larger plane, a 767, so it will all travel with us at one time," said McCoy.

"That's opposed to sending up some stuff early in the week. From that standpoint we should be good. Obviously getting it all back home is the key. Anytime you have to turn around all that laundry, and all that product after a cold weather game. Getting all that home and ready to play against the Packers, or even Washington, is a quick turn around for us."

The Cowboys and Bears will kickoff just after 7:30 on Monday night in Chicago.
