Silver Star Nation: Take the ball, "D"

August 1, 2017 - Dallas Cowboys secondary coach Joe Baker wants more take aways from his guys, a lot more!

Dallas finished 27th in interceptions last year with just nine.

They hope to change that this year, and it's been a major point of emphasis here in Oxnard.

There's one sure way to get the ball.

Practice, practice, practice.

Byron Jones said, "My main focus in offseason was ball skills, working on tracking the ball, catching it in the air. Anything that's being outdoors from five o'clock catching as much balls as I can.

Reporter, "Tennis balls?"

Jones answered, "Tennis balls, all of it."

Reporter, "Give me a ball you didn't. Bowling balls?"

Jones, "No, you don't do bowling balls. That's sketchy."

Joe Baker said, "Who's got the best hands on the team? You could make the argument Dez does. Does anybody catch more balls in practice that Dez? If he's not in, what's he doing? He's catching balls. It's all about repetition, so Byron has embraced that. He knows it's a point of emphasis on the defense. He wants to be the best he can be.So, he's doing that. He's doing an unbelievable job."

Byron Jones and the rest of this Dallas defense will find out if practice makes perfect when they play the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday night in Canton, Ohio.
