Cooper co-offensive coordinator Sterling Doty is the next head coach at Magnolia High School. The move is pending Magnolia School Board approval next Monday night.

Doty and co-offensive coordinator Jerod Womack helped lead the Cooper offense to a record setting 2014 season, and that offense led the Cougars to the 3rd round of the Class 5A playoffs.

With Lorenzo Joe at quarterback and Trey Dye at running back, the Cougars set a team rushing record with 4,190 yards. The offense also set a scoring record in 2014 averaging over 41 points per game.

On leaving Abilene, Doty said, "It's been a whirlwind 3 weeks. It was a hard decision. Abilene is a great place."

Doty takes a over a rebuilding project in Magnolia. He said, "I am extremely excited about the opportunity. I am humbled and honored to get the chance to be the head coach. I am ready to get to work."

Magnolia is a Class 5A program that went 4-6 in 2013. The Bulldogs won just 26 games in the last 7 seasons.

Doty's 1st day at work is coming up on Tuesday, March 4th.
