Sweetwater Changes Helmets for Motivation

You don't have to look hard to notice one of the changes at practice in Sweetwater after a change in the helmet for the junior varsity and freshman teams.

In years past the Mustang Bowl was only used for the varsity game on Friday night. That has since changed and other teams, including the junior varsity and freshman, now use the stadium for their games.

That small change is just one of the reasons head coach Shane Mobley decided to make the switch to white helmets for the junior varsity and freshman squads.

"The whole goal is, inside that locker room and outside at practice I want the younger kids to fight.  It's not all about friday nights but it's also about wearing that red helmet. I think last year we had some kids that were in red helmets, now they're in white helmets and they're fine with it and they want that red helmet. I know for years to come, our seventh and eighth graders, as they come up they're going to be in white helmets the whole time. Now they're going to be like 'I want that red helmet.' The hope is their freshman and sophomore years they're fighting for a red helmet. That's what we're going to preach on and get after," said head coach Shane Mobley.

The varsity Mustangs will take the field for the first time this year on the road in Eastland on Friday August 30th.
