In 2012 the Anson Tigers surprised a lot of people with a 5-0 start. This year they're just living up to expectations.

Anson is also impressing a lot of the pollsters in the Lone Star State. Most have the Tigers ranked within the top ten, and Harris Ratings currently have Anson ranked fourth in Class 1A Div. I.

The Tigers are aware of the expectations and rankings, but focused more on their football team.

"We don't talk about the polls a whole lot, but we do embrace the fact that there is a higher expectation. We know there's a bigger target on our back. We talk to our kids each week about getting our opponent's best every week," said head coach Keith Woolf.

The players are also aware of the new expectations around town, and around the state.

"Last year at this time, we were picked to lose all of our games. Now were picked to win. It's just different. You've got to have a different mindset since everybody thinks we've arrived. I try not to worry about [the polls]. I mean, we just take it week by week, and don't think about that stuff," said Lance Norman.

The offense has been a big key to the Tigers success this season, but their defense has also been a big reason for the 5-0 start. That includes Norman, who currently leads the team with 16 sacks, and over fifty tackles; more than half of which come behind the line of scrimmage.

Performances like that are helping raise the bar and expectations in Anson.

"We're trying to set a bar high enough where we can reach it, and our opponents can't. Whether we can do that or not, that's our goal, is to set the bar really high. We know we're going to have high expectations from the community, and state-wide. We look forward to those expectations and hopefully we can reach them," said Woolf.

This week the Tigers will wrap up non-district play against Tahoka on Friday night.
